Blended Learning in Community Learning

Preliminary scenario description:

  • Blended learning. Blackbird Leys Information Technology Zone (BLITZ) offers innovative blended learning programme for people thinking about making a change:
    • Returning to work?
    • Taking a break from work?
    • Changing job?
    • Going back to college?

  • We propose developing a Moodle course to support the blended learning on [whatever we can call it]; all titles below are working titles [maybe they are "chapters" or "units" or 'chunks"]:
    • writing your life
    • personal development planning
    • CV builder
    • Using ICT for social reflection: blogs, wikis, e-portfolios, personal learning environments
    • Understand the blogosphere, journals, flickr, mySpace
    • Personal Identity Management (maybe this is just a small chapter).

  • We propose an introductory workshop for participants at the beginning of the 2nd cycle of courses for Adult (Community) Learning in the upcoming term in October. If it is blended learning maybe we could have say four face to face meetings over an 8 week period: beginning and end and two in the middle with a lot of ICT/on-line options in the middle including blogs, discussion forums, e-mail lists, informal sessions in pubs and cafes: surgeries at BLITZ When do we need to have firmed up:
    • Learning outcomes?
    • Scheme of work?
    • Participants?
    • title?
  • We propose using the RARPA scheme for recognising and recording progress and achievement in non accredited learning.
  • There should be a clearly articulated progression path, e.g. to a College-based Access to HE-type course. For example the Personal Development Tutorial on Access to HE at Abingdon and Witney College.
