Are we tinkering? Michelle Selinger at ALT-C

Michelle Selinger asks, "Do we need to do more?" More of what? Michelle throws down yet another challenge from the corporate sector to the universities sector. Selinger calls herself an "escaped academic". She identifies 3 chasms: cultural (cultural), school/university (sectoral), formal/informal learning (personal). What is informal learning? Having worked 15 years in the corporate sector for the energy industry, I consider my self a corporate escapee.

Slow start, new track

Finally wrote to Jim Barlow at Community Learning to ask if he could help me with my research. I want to look at how people, who associate themselves with a community IT centre, use that association to make positive changes in their lives: increasing community engagement, educational attainment and employability. I want to see if there is a relationship between the ICT practices (i.e. what people actually do with computers) and their "life trajectories" in and through community ICT centres.

Last night while "supporting" Al in the final throes of completing her PhD I set out to put my fingers where my mouth has been (so to speak) and set myself up a Myspace site, a Technorati account, a PageFlake webtop (what's a webtop?) and a Del.icio.us account.
